Meiosis 1 results in 2 daughter cells and meiosis 2 results in 4. There are two successive divisions, meiosis i and meiosis ii, in which four daughter cells that have the haploid chromosome number (23 in humans) are formed. Similar to mitosis, microtubules such as the kinetochore fibers interact to pull the chromosomes to the cell poles.
In the first, known as meiosis i, the homologous chromosomes separate and segregate.
Meiosis ii is the second consecutive division of meiosis which resembles mitosis. Anaphase 2 occurs in haploid cells. During meiosis ii the sister chromatids separate and segregate.
